Aid Review catch-up

25 January 2011
  • There is just over a week to go until submissions close for the independent review of Australia's foreign aid program. Currently, there are a total of 25 submissions in the review panel’s inbox. Interestingly, so far, the bulk of these submissions have been from individuals rather than organisations. Few of the larger Australian NGOs have a submission in, so one can expect there will be a last minute surge next week.

  • Philip Lynch,  Executive Director of the Human Rights Law Resource Centre urges the aid review panel not to forget the promotion and protection of human rights in ABC’s The Drum.

  • Peter Timmins directs the aid review panel towards the issues of accountability and transparency via his blog ‘Open and Shut’ which focuses on Freedom of Information and privacy legislation in Australia.

  • Matt Morris from the Development Policy Centre, Australian National University, blogs on  the recently released 2009 Annual Review of Development Effectiveness (ARDE) report (the report can be accessed here) and, importantly, the implications this ARDE report has for the current Australian aid review.

  • Lastly, for those who have a twitter account, all Interpreting the aid review posts swiftly make their way to the Lowy Institute twitter account and you can follow the discussion on Australia’s aid review via the hashtag #aidreview. For those without a twitter account who would still like to track and follow the conversation on the aid review you can do so here.
